This is a unique Bamana door lock from Mali, West Africa. The lock dates to between the 1920s - 1940s and is in fair condition as shown.

These wooden bolt locks, known as ta koguru, are also significant cultural objects. These pieces are used to secure homes, granaries, and sanctuaries, providing both physical and spiritual security. were used by the Dogon people to secure doors to houses, granaries, and shrines.

Composed of two pieces, a fixed part attached to the door (with the original fasteners still attached) and a sliding bolt. This Bamana door lock embodies Bamana philosophy, spirituality, and beliefs about social relationships.
